Pumphouse Recreation Area

Could the Pumphouse Recreation Area be the ultimate basecamp for river enthusiasts? This well-maintained campground, part of the Upper Colorado River Special Recreation Management Area, sits along the Colorado River, providing direct access to Class II/III rapids downstream and the adrenaline-pumping Class V Gore Canyon rapids upstream, suitable for seasoned adventurers. This campground features 18 individual campsites and 2 group campsites, all equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and access to vault toilets. Potable water is available seasonally, although it’s best to bring extra water due to occasional outages. Three developed boat ramps are available for easy river access, and adjacent hiking trails, like the Gore Canyon Trail, offer opportunities for exploration and fishing along the riverbanks. While the sites are not highly secluded, the panoramic views and the proximity to the water create an appealing outdoor atmosphere.

Located about 14 miles southwest of Kremmling via Trough Road, the Pumphouse Recreation Area is accessible yet feels remote. The nearby Gore Canyon Whitewater Playpark offers unique kayaking and paddleboarding experiences. From fishing enthusiasts reveling in the rich aquatic ecosystems to thrill-seekers craving whitewater excitement, Pumphouse is a versatile destination.
