Campground Overview
About Purtis Creek State Park
Set against the serene backdrop of a 355-acre lake surrounded by dense oak forest, Purtis Creek State Park Campground defies the expectations of a typical lakeside retreat by offering unmatched tranquility, abundant wildlife, and opportunities for adventure. The campground’s combination of well-spaced sites, shaded by mature trees, and access to diverse outdoor activities makes it ideal for nature enthusiasts and families alike.
Campers can choose from a variety of site options, including 59 sites with water and electricity, five walk-in tent sites for added seclusion, and 13 primitive hike-in sites for those seeking a more rugged experience. On-site amenities such as restrooms with showers, picnic tables, fire rings, and a convenient dump station ensure comfort without sacrificing the natural experience. The highlight, however, is the lake itself, where fishing enthusiasts can enjoy catch-and-release largemouth bass angling or venture onto the water with non-motorized or electric boats. Hiking and biking trails weave through the oak forest, offering glimpses of local wildlife and peaceful vistas.
Located just three miles north of Eustace, Texas, and about 25 minutes from Athens, the park’s proximity to the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center and Cedar Creek Reservoir provides additional recreational opportunities. Whether planning a weekend escape or an extended vacation, Purtis Creek State Park Campground offers a harmonious blend of comfort and immersion in nature, making it an exceptional destination for outdoor adventure.
