Perched atop the rugged Huachuca Mountains at 7,200 feet, Reef Townsite Campground offers a cool mountain retreat with panoramic views and a fascinating mining history. This small, primitive campground features 14 rustic sites nestled among towering pines, providing an intimate connection with nature and a reprieve from desert heat.
The campground's unique appeal lies in its rich historical context. Built on the site of an old mining town, remnants of Reef's past are visible throughout, including old water system structures and mining artifacts. An interpretive trail showcases this legacy, winding through evidence of former mining operations and cabin foundations. The proximity to Carr Reef, a striking quartzite cliff formation, adds to the area's geological intrigue.
Located about 15 miles from Sierra Vista, Reef Townsite serves as an excellent base for exploring the Coronado National Forest.
