About Riley Horse Campground

Can you imagine a camping experience where the neigh of horses and the whisper of forest trails set the tone? Riley Horse Campground breaks the mold with its equestrian-focused facilities, serene woodland setting, and direct access to some of Mt. Hood National Forest’s most inviting trails.

Located near Lost Creek within the geologically unique Old Maid Flat area, this campground is tailored for equestrians, offering 14 campsites equipped with horse corrals, hitching posts, picnic tables, and fire rings. Though designed for horse enthusiasts, non-equestrian campers seeking quiet and a connection to nature are welcome. The campground features vault toilets and drinking water, ensuring basic comforts amid the wilderness. From here, visitors can explore the 5.3-mile Cast Creek Trail, which links to other nearby trails, or enjoy the scenic 7.1-mile hike to Ramona Falls, a standout destination for its breathtaking cascades.

A mere 15-minute drive from Zigzag, Oregon, Riley Horse Campground offers convenient access to fishing in the Sandy River and Lost Creek, as well as opportunities for hiking, picnicking, and wildlife viewing. The proximity to Mt. Hood's attractions, including Timberline Lodge and Trillium Lake, adds even more options for adventure, making this a great pick for weekend getaways or extended nature escapes.
