Perched along the banks of the Alabama River, Roland Cooper State Park Campground offers a harmonious blend of serene natural beauty, exceptional stargazing opportunities, and first-rate amenities for campers of all types. With its designation as a Dark Sky site featuring a 2 on the Bortle Scale, the park boasts unparalleled night skies perfect for astronomers and casual stargazers alike. Its location on the Dannelly Reservoir, a well-known fishing hotspot in southwest Alabama, makes it a prime destination for anglers and outdoor enthusiasts.
The campground itself features 47 RV sites equipped with full hookups, 14 primitive tent sites, and nine well-appointed cabins, offering options for everything from rugged camping to comfortable retreats. Each campsite is outfitted with a picnic table, fire ring, and level pavement, while modern bathhouses with hot showers ensure convenience is never sacrificed. On-site amenities like a boat launch, birding trails, and access to hiking and biking trails make this an excellent base for both relaxation and recreation.
Located just six miles northeast of Camden, guests are within a short drive of unique cultural attractions like the Gee’s Bend Ferry and the neighboring Black Belt Birding Trail, where wildlife enthusiasts can glimpse bald eagles and other notable species.
