Campground Overview
About Schoolcraft State Park
Shaded by towering pines over 300 years old, Schoolcraft State Park Campground offers a tranquil escape into Minnesota’s natural beauty, with rustic charm, intimate proximity to the Mississippi River, and exceptional opportunities for canoeing and fishing. This serene haven features 28 non-electric campsites, including a canoe-in site and a group site, all adorned with a peaceful ambiance and surrounded by lush forest.
Located just 10 minutes from Deer River and about 20 minutes from Grand Rapids, the 225-acre park offers a uniquely quiet experience along the Mississippi River, far removed from more crowded recreation areas. The campground includes pit toilets, potable water until Labor Day, and plenty of riverside picnic spots, but does not provide showers, electric hookups, or dump stations, ensuring an undisturbed, rustic retreat. Activities abound, with a 1.75-mile interpretive hiking trail, excellent fishing for walleye and northern pike, and access to both the Mississippi and Vermillion Rivers for kayaking or wildlife observation. Nearby attractions include the Forest History Center and the Judy Garland Museum, both within a short drive.
This campground is perfect for weekend getaways or peaceful extended stays where visitors can delve into the park's historical and ecological significance while enjoying its natural tranquility.
