Campground Overview
About South Arm Campground
Isolated along the serene Richardson Lakes in Maine's Western Mountains, South Arm Campground offers a harmonious blend of lakeside tranquility, forested seclusion, and immersive outdoor recreation. This campground's standout features include waterfront campsites, many with private beaches, and a unique option for wilderness camping on remote, boat-accessible sites spread across 17 miles of pristine lake shoreline.
The main campground features 65 wooded sites for tents, trailers, and RVs, set amid spruce, hemlock, and birch trees. Half of these sites are directly on the lake, while many others boast water views. Amenities include clean restrooms with hot showers, fire rings, picnic tables, electric hookups, and a small store for essentials. Visitors enjoy exceptional fishing opportunities for trout and salmon on Richardson Lake and Rapid River, as well as swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and evening activities like family-friendly kayak races in summer.
Located 11 miles north of Andover along South Arm Road, the campground is a gateway to Maine's rugged natural beauty. Its proximity to Richardson Lake enables unparalleled access to boating, while the surrounding wilderness invites hiking and wildlife observation, making it ideal for both weekend escapes and extended outdoor adventures.
