Campground Overview
About Southshore on Detroit Lake
The Southshore Campground on Detroit Lake offers a serene retreat with a mix of wooded and open campsites, situated slightly away from the lake's busier areas, providing tranquility and scenic beauty. Campers will find both drive-in and walk-in sites—ideal for tents, RVs (up to 30 feet), and trailers—all shaded by groves of towering Douglas fir trees. Each of the 30 campsites comes equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and nearby access to drinking water, while rustic vault toilets are available on-site. Though amenities are minimal, the peace and proximity to the pristine lake make up for it.
Located just 6 miles from Idanha, Oregon, and nestled within the Willamette National Forest, the campground offers direct access to Detroit Lake’s 3,500-acre expanse, perfect for boating, fishing, kayaking, and swimming. A boat ramp and courtesy docks are on-site for water enthusiasts. Adventurous visitors can explore nearby hiking trails to rewards like Dome Rock or Stahlman Point for panoramic views. For a rejuvenating day trip, the Breitenbush Hot Springs, a rustic retreat known for its natural hot springs, is within a 30-minute drive. Whether you're on a quick weekend getaway or a longer escape, Southshore provides a quiet, immersive outdoor experience disconnected from the usual crowds.
