Campground Overview
About Spencer Spit State Park
Set against the backdrop of the serene waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Spencer Spit State Park on Lopez Island offers a distinctly coastal camping experience enriched by sandy beaches, tranquil forests, and a remarkable saltwater lagoon teeming with wildlife. This campground combines the allure of waterfront sites with varied camping options, from private wooded spots to open beachside locations where the rhythm of the tides and views of passing ferries provide a peaceful atmosphere.
The park features 37 standard campsites, seven beach walk-in sites, and three group sites, accommodating both casual campers and larger gatherings. While privacy varies—with beach sites offering more exposure and adjacent water views—the wooded sites are spacious and secluded. Facilities include drinking water, fire pits, flush and pit toilets, and recycling services, though there are no showers or RV hookups. The park’s two miles of trails provide easy access to the lagoon and sandy spit, ideal for birdwatching and taking in panoramic views of Lopez Sound. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, crabbing, and clamming—perfect for embracing the rugged charm of the San Juan Islands.
Located just a few miles from Lopez Village and the ferry terminal, this park is both accessible and removed from crowds, making it ideal for long weekends or extended stays. Whether exploring its natural beauty, launching kayaks from its sandy shores, or enjoying the iconic Pacific Northwest scenery, Spencer Spit State Park offers a quintessential island camping experience.
