Campground Overview
About Spruce Group Campsite
Framed by the towering spruce trees of Colorado's Wet Mountains, Spruce Group Campground offers a uniquely secluded group camping experience amidst the scenic Lake Isabel Recreation Area. Defined by its tranquil atmosphere, striking forested surroundings, and proximity to recreational activities, this campground is ideal for gatherings seeking a harmonious blend of privacy and adventure.
The campground accommodates up to 40 overnight guests or 50 for day-use, with paved parking for RVs and basic amenities including fire rings, picnic tables, vault toilets, and potable water via a hand pump. Standout features include a picnic shelter seating up to 30 people, a horseshoe pit, volleyball court, and two large grills perfectly suited for group activities. While there are no defined tent pads, the lush forested environment and the adjacent St. Charles Creek amplify the site's natural charm.
Located at 8,600 feet, just 18 miles west of I-25 near Rye, the campground is minutes from Lake Isabel, a reservoir built for recreation. Visitors can enjoy fishing for stocked brown and brook trout, non-motorized boating, or exploring nearby trails like the 15-mile Cisneros Trail, which traverses wildflower-filled valleys and scenic woodlands. Additionally, a nearby lodge offers paddleboat rentals and dining options, while the Frontier Pathways Scenic Byway provides a perfect backdrop for scenic drives.
