About Swartswood State Park
The tranquil shores of Swartswood Lake, surrounded by lush forests, set the stage for one of New Jersey's most inviting camping experiences. Swartswood State Park Campground offers 65 well-maintained sites for tents, trailers, and RVs, as well as unique yurt accommodations, ensuring options for every type of camper. Each site is equipped with a fire ring, picnic table, and lantern holder, with clean restrooms and hot showers nearby. Although RV hookups are unavailable, the convenience of a sanitary dump station and water access keeps things practical for extended stays.
Located in Hampton Township, within a 30-minute drive of charming Newton, this campground makes an ideal base for exploring the region’s natural beauty. Swartswood Lake, the park's centerpiece and New Jersey’s third-largest freshwater lake, offers activities like kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and swimming at a sandy beach. Hiking enthusiasts will find trails of varying difficulty, with highlights such as the scenic Grist Mill Trail. The park is also a haven for wildlife, including a thriving bald eagle population, making it a perfect retreat for birdwatchers and nature lovers. Whether you're visiting for a weekend escape or a longer nature-filled getaway, Swartswood State Park Campground is a serene destination with year-round appeal.
