Campground Overview
About Tenderfoot Creek Campground
Tenderfoot Creek Campground offers a quintessential Alaskan escape, combining serene lakeside camping with breathtaking views of the Chugach National Forest. Located along the eastern shore of Summit Lake on the Kenai Peninsula, just off Mile 46 of the Seward Highway and approximately 21 miles north of Seward, it provides easy access to outdoor adventures while maintaining a tranquil atmosphere.
This campground features 35 well-spaced sites nestled among alder, willow, and spruce trees, with Tenderfoot Creek gently meandering through the grounds. Amenities include picnic tables, fire rings, potable water, and vault toilets, ensuring a comfortable stay for both tent campers and RV enthusiasts. The lack of electric hookups is more than compensated by the natural beauty and recreational opportunities. A boat ramp and nearby trails offer access to fishing, kayaking, and hiking, while wildlife sightings, from bald eagles to moose, enhance the wilderness experience.
Summit Lake, a glacially carved tarn, is a highlight of the area. Its clear, 20-foot-deep waters are ideal for paddling and fishing, stocked with rainbow trout and Dolly Varden. Trailheads like Resurrection Pass and Summit Creek are minutes away, offering hiking and biking routes through stunning alpine scenery. The campground is also conveniently close to the Summit Lake Lodge for dining and supplies and nearby attractions like Portage Glacier in the Portage Valley, just a short drive south. This picturesque campground is perfect for weekend getaways, extended vacations, or memorable stopovers along the scenic Seward Highway.
