About Trumbull Lake
Set at the tranquil elevation of nearly 10,000 feet, Trumbull Lake Campground offers an idyllic retreat characterized by serene alpine beauty, excellent trout fishing, and direct access to the Hoover Wilderness. This high-altitude haven defies expectations with its quiet ambiance, thanks to the surrounding lodgepole pines and aspens, and provides campers with an escape from the crowds often found at similar destinations.
Most campsites are shaded and well-spaced, with a few offering partial views of the shimmering Trumbull Lake. The campground features essentials like vault toilets, potable water, picnic tables, bear boxes, and fire rings, ensuring a comfortable stay without excess frills. While there are no RV hookups, the intimate proximity to the lake makes it easy to enjoy canoeing or fishing for rainbow, brook, and brown trout. Trails from the area lead into the Hoover Wilderness, promising outstanding hiking and horseback riding adventures among stunning glacier-carved landscapes. For additional convenience, Virginia Lakes Resort is located nearby, offering showers and a general store for supplies.
Located just twelve miles from Bridgeport, California, and accessible via Virginia Lakes Road, Trumbull Lake is part of a picturesque network of ten alpine lakes tucked beneath towering peaks like Dunderberg Peak. Within a short drive, visitors can explore other local gems, including Mono Lake, Bodie State Historic Park, and natural hot springs, making this campground a prime base for both relaxation and exploration.
