About Tuff Campground

With its rugged tuff rock formations, the soothing sounds of Rock Creek, and convenient access to outdoor adventures, Tuff Campground defies typical expectations of a roadside campground. Located 13 miles south of Mammoth Lakes and just off Highway 395 near Tom’s Place, this campground is a gateway to the breathtaking landscapes of the Eastern Sierra at an elevation of 7,000 feet.

The 34 campsites at Tuff Campground accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs, with amenities including picnic tables, fire rings, bear-proof food storage, drinking water, and clean vault toilets. Many sites feature sun shelters for added comfort, especially during the warm season. The setting offers a mix of open sagebrush areas surrounded by aspens, cottonwoods, and Jeffrey pines, with the cascading Rock Creek running alongside many campsites. Fishing opportunities abound in the creek, famous for its trout, along with nearby destinations like Crowley Lake and Rock Creek Lake. Additionally, the area is ideal for hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing.

Situated just five miles from Crowley Lake and within easy reach of the trails leading to Little Lakes Valley, Tuff Campground serves as a perfect base for day trips, fishing outings, or serene weekend retreats. Whether you're drawn by the volcanic terrain, tranquil creek, or proximity to Eastern Sierra attractions, Tuff Campground offers a unique blend of comfort and wilderness adventure.
