Campground Overview
About Turney Gulch Group Campground
Turney Gulch Group Campground offers a secluded mountain retreat in the Prescott National Forest, where towering ponderosa pines surround a rustic site designed for group camping. Located seven miles southeast of Crown King off an unimproved dirt road, the campground combines peaceful isolation with access to outdoor adventure, including hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing in the surrounding Bradshaw Mountains.
This group-only site accommodates up to 100 people and features amenities like a covered picnic shelter, 15 picnic tables, fire grills, an accessible vault toilet, and a designated space for up to 30 vehicles. While drinking water is available, campers are advised to bring additional water, as the facility's remote location can present logistical challenges. Nearby Horsethief Lake provides opportunities for fishing and non-motorized boating, while the Castle Creek Wilderness offers hiking trails with stunning views. The town of Crown King, a historic former ghost town, is a short drive away for basic supplies or a dose of local charm.
Perched at 6,000 feet elevation, the campground provides a refreshing escape from the desert heat in summer and cooler, sometimes snowy conditions in winter. Its combination of natural beauty, rustic comfort, and easy access to diverse activities makes Turney Gulch an excellent choice for group gatherings, whether for a weekend getaway or extended expedition. High-clearance vehicles are strongly recommended due to the rough access roads, ensuring that only well-prepared adventurers make their way to this serene destination.
