Campground Overview
About Valentine Lake Campground
Imagine a serene retreat where the rustle of pine trees and the gentle lapping of water provide an uninterrupted connection to nature—Valentine Lake Campground is precisely that. Located in the Kisatchie National Forest near Elmer, Louisiana, this secluded 14-site campground offers a tranquil escape, complete with lakeside campsites, breathtaking natural beauty, and a focus on peaceful, primitive camping. Its distinctive charm lies in its quiet atmosphere, abundant wildlife, and access to scenic hiking trails.
Valentine Lake is a 46-acre, motor-free lake, making it ideal for those seeking stillness and a closer bond with the environment. Six of the campsites are right along the shoreline, offering direct views of the water, while all sites feature picnic tables, fire pits, and lantern posts. Amenities include potable water and restrooms, although they are strategically placed rather than at each site. The well-maintained Valentine Lake Trail loops three miles through lush woodlands, while the nearby Wild Azalea Trail—the longest in Louisiana—extends opportunities for deeper exploration. Fishing, canoeing, and non-motorized boating further enhance the outdoor experience, with Florida bass stocked in the lake for angling enthusiasts.
Just 20 miles west of Alexandria, the campground’s location offers a peaceful retreat within a 30-minute drive of cultural landmarks like the Southern Forest Heritage Museum and historical sites such as Camp Claiborne’s main entrance. Designed for tent campers and small RVs, Valentine Lake Campground is perfect for weekend getaways, nature-focused vacations, or day trips to reconnect with the pristine beauty of Louisiana's forested heartlands.
