Campground Overview
About Wedge Overlook
Perched on the dramatic rim of Utah’s "Little Grand Canyon," the Wedge Overlook Campground offers unmatched vistas of the San Rafael River below and the rugged expanse of the San Rafael Swell. Distinguished by its breathtaking canyon views, remote tranquility, and adventurous spirit, this dispersed camping area is ideal for those seeking solitude, scenic beauty, and a connection with nature’s raw landscapes.
The campground provides primitive, dispersed sites scattered along the canyon rim, each offering a front-row seat to awe-inspiring sunrises and sunsets. Amenities are minimal, limited to a vault toilet at the main overlook, so campers must come prepared with water and supplies. The maintained gravel access road is navigable by most vehicles, though caution is advised due to occasional rough patches. A haven for hiking, mountain biking, and photography, the area includes the renowned Good Water Rim Trail, a 15-mile biking route with dramatic canyon-edge views.
Located approximately 20 miles from Castle Dale, the Wedge Overlook offers easy access to nearby attractions such as the Buckhorn Wash Pictograph Panel, historic swinging bridge, and towering sandstone formations of the San Rafael Swell. This camping destination is perfect for adventurous weekend escapes or extended stays immersed in Utah’s captivating desert wilderness.
