About Aspen Campground
With its dynamic blend of serene pine forests, diverse wildlife, and proximity to Woods Canyon Lake, Aspen Campground challenges conventional notions of camping by offering a tranquil yet activity-rich retreat at an elevation of 7,000 feet in Arizona's Mogollon Rim area. This expansive site boasts a variety of natural settings, from marshy meadows to wooded stretches, ensuring a unique experience for every camper.
Aspen Campground features 148 widely spaced campsites spread across four loops, accommodating tents, RVs, and trailers. Each site is outfitted with picnic tables, fire rings, and grills, though hookups are not available. Key amenities include potable water, vault toilets, and a convenient dump station. A short stroll leads to the Woods Canyon Lake Marina, which provides boat rentals, fishing supplies, groceries, and firewood. The nearby paved roads are ideal for biking, and the area offers a wealth of activities like trout fishing, hiking, kayaking, and wildlife observation. Seasonal ranger-led educational programs add a family-friendly touch, while the surrounding Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest offers trails with breathtaking views and opportunities to encounter elk and deer.
Located about 35 miles from Payson and 25 miles from Heber, this campground is a perfect base for exploring nearby attractions such as Willow Springs Lake and the Mogollon Rim Visitor Center, both within a 30-minute drive. The cool summer temperatures and occasional monsoon rains create a refreshing escape from Arizona’s heat, making Aspen Campground a standout destination for weekend getaways or extended vacations.
