Blanketed by towering pines and perched at an elevation of 7,500 feet, Spillway Campground stands apart with its serene lakeside ambience, cool summer temperatures, and direct access to natural wonders like Woods Canyon Lake and the Mogollon Rim. Ideal for anglers, hikers, and nature enthusiasts, this campground offers a tranquil yet activity-filled retreat in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest.
This small and shaded campground features 26 individual campsites and one group site accommodating up to 25 people, with some sites offering prime lakeside views. Amenities include picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets, and drinking water, while additional conveniences such as boat rentals and a stocked general store are available nearby at Woods Canyon Lake. Campers can enjoy trout fishing, non-motorized boating, and gentle hiking on trails like the Woods Canyon Lake Trail or the Rim Lakes Vista Trail, which offers sweeping views of the Mogollon Rim.
Located approximately 30 miles east of Payson, Spillway Campground is easily accessible via Highway 260 and Forest Road 300. Its proximity to the Rim Lakes Recreation Area provides a gateway to endless outdoor recreation opportunities, making it a favored destination for weekend escapes or extended stays in Arizona's high country.
