About Aspen Campground
Set against the striking backdrop of Colorado's high country, Aspen Campground offers a serene retreat along Jefferson Creek, just a short drive from the shimmering waters of Jefferson Lake. This 9,900-foot elevation campground is defined by its tranquil atmosphere, diverse recreational opportunities, and easy access to some of the state's most breathtaking trails and fishing spots.
The campground features a single loop of well-shaded sites tucked among groves of aspen and spruce trees, each equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and parking aprons suitable for up to two vehicles. Vault toilets and drinking water from a hand pump are available, but no electric hookups or showers are provided, ensuring an authentic camping experience. The nearby Jefferson Lake Recreation Area, accessed via a short drive, boasts crystal-clear water perfect for trout fishing, no-wake boating, and picnicking, with an easy boat ramp for access.
Located about 20 miles south of the historic town of Fairplay, the campground offers proximity to cultural gems like the South Park City Museum, as well as adventure-filled trails such as the Colorado Trail and the West Jefferson Loop Trail, which leads to the Continental Divide. Aspen Campground is ideal for campers seeking a peaceful escape, weekend getaway, or a base for exploring Colorado’s rugged beauty.
