About Basin Campground

Can you imagine waking to the tranquil sound of a rushing creek, with towering peaks of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness framing your surroundings? Basin Campground, located just 7 miles west of Red Lodge, Montana, offers a serene escape with unparalleled access to outdoor adventure, exceptional natural beauty, and well-maintained facilities.

Visitors will find 30 campsites distributed across a 7-acre area adjacent to the West Fork of Rock Creek, a prime spot for fishing and wildlife viewing. The campground features amenities including picnic tables, fire rings, drinking water from hand pumps, and ADA-accessible vault toilets. Trails such as the Basin Lakes Trail and Silver Run Trailhead begin nearby, offering hikers, bikers, and backpackers easy entry into the surrounding wilderness. Despite its popularity and high summer usage, the campground maintains a peaceful atmosphere, enhanced by the remnants of the 2008 Cascade Fire, which now support vibrant wildflower displays.

The campground is a short drive from Red Lodge, a charming mountain town with galleries, shops, and events such as the Fourth of July Home of Champions Rodeo. Basin Campground is also ideally situated near the Beartooth Highway, a renowned scenic drive showcasing the region's dramatic alpine landscapes. This destination is perfect for weekend getaways or longer stays, appealing to nature lovers, families, and adventure seekers alike.
