About Bear River Group Campground

Perched at an elevation of 6,000 feet in the central Sierra Nevada, Bear River Group Campground captivates visitors with its prime location above the tranquil Lower Bear River Reservoir and its quiet, forested setting. Ideal for group gatherings, the campground offers a distinctive blend of natural beauty, convenient amenities, and access to diverse recreational activities.

This walk-in, tent-only group campground features four designated sites: Kokanee accommodates up to 50 people, while Junco, Chipmunk, and Smokey can host up to 25 each. Each site is equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, grills, a group cooking area, and bear-proof food storage lockers. Guests also have access to piped drinking water, trash collection, and vault toilets. The surrounding Eldorado National Forest is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, with opportunities for fishing, kayaking, swimming, and wildlife viewing at the nearby reservoir. The standout highlight is the Pardoe Trail, which ascends to over 9,000 feet, offering panoramic views of the Mokelumne Wilderness.

Located just 40 miles east of Jackson off State Route 88 and a short drive from the Bear River Lake Resort, this campground serves as a convenient base for exploring the area's natural splendor. Whether you plan a weekend getaway or an extended group retreat, Bear River Group Campground offers a perfect balance of seclusion, adventure, and rustic comfort.
