About Berlin Ichthyosaur State Park
With its stark desert setting and rich historical allure, Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park Campground defies common camping expectations by offering an extraordinary combination of prehistoric intrigue and ghost town exploration in Nevada’s remote Shoshone Mountains. This campground is a haven for history enthusiasts and nature lovers seeking solitude and unique experiences.
The campground features 14 well-spaced sites equipped with covered picnic tables, fire pits, and grills, ensuring comfort amid the rugged landscape. Accommodating both tents and RVs up to 25 feet, the campground includes vault toilets and seasonal water availability (April to October). The peaceful atmosphere is enhanced by the surrounding pinyon pines and Utah junipers, with minimal light pollution making it an excellent destination for stargazing. A short nature trail connects the campground to the Fossil House, which houses the world’s largest concentration of ichthyosaur fossils—an unforgettable glimpse into Earth’s deep past.
Located about 23 miles east of Gabbs, Nevada, the park also includes the preserved ghost town of Berlin. Visitors can explore its 19th-century mining relics and historic cemetery while learning about Nevada's silver mining heritage. The campground serves as an ideal base for hiking scenic trails, discovering ichthyosaur fossils, or simply enjoying a quiet retreat in this fascinating corner of the high desert.
