Campground Overview
About Big Pine Canyon Group Campgrounds
Imagine camping in the shadow of soaring 14,000-foot peaks, where turquoise glacial lakes glisten under the sun and the air is filled with the fresh scent of pines. The Big Pine Canyon Group Campgrounds in California’s Inyo National Forest offer a rare combination of striking alpine scenery, serene creekside campsites, and a gateway to some of the largest glaciers in the Sierra Nevada.
This campground consists of two group sites—Clyde Glacier Group Site and Palisade Glacier Group Site—each accommodating up to 25 people. While Clyde Glacier Site accommodates vehicles and RVs up to 35 feet, the Palisade Site is exclusively for tent camping. Both sites feature essential amenities like picnic tables, fire rings with grills, vault toilets, and access to fresh drinking water. Privacy and tranquility define the sites, making them ideal for family gatherings or group retreats.
Located just 10 miles west of Big Pine, this campground serves as a perfect base for exploring the nearby Big Pine Lakes, Palisade Glacier, and Middle Palisade Glacier. Hike along the North Fork Trail for breathtaking views of cascading waterfalls and glacial vistas, or cast your line in the fish-filled waters of Big Pine Creek for an unforgettable fishing experience. Within a 30-minute drive, you can also find a lodge offering pay showers, fishing ponds, and a small general store for added convenience. For adventurers, the surrounding wilderness invites backpacking, wildlife viewing, and even climbing on the steep, glacier-carved canyon walls.
