About Big Pine Creek Campground

Big Pine Creek Campground offers a quintessential Sierra Nevada backcountry experience, combining pristine alpine scenery, proximity to glacial lakes, and access to challenging hiking trails. This traditional campground sits at 7,700 feet elevation, surrounded by Jeffrey pines and cottonwoods along the banks of Big Pine Creek.

The 30 sites provide a rustic base camp for outdoor enthusiasts, with basic amenities like picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets. The campground's location at the end of Big Pine Canyon Road positions visitors at the gateway to the John Muir Wilderness, with the trailhead to the popular Big Pine Lakes just steps away.

Situated 10 miles west of the town of Big Pine, the campground serves as an ideal starting point for day hikes, fishing excursions, and multi-day backpacking trips into the High Sierra. The area is renowned for its turquoise glacial lakes, towering granite peaks, and the southernmost glacier in the United States. Anglers can cast lines for trout in Big Pine Creek, while ambitious hikers can tackle the strenuous trail to the Palisade Glacier, offering breathtaking views of the Eastern Sierra.
