Campground Overview
About Campo Alto Campground
Isolated at 8,250 feet atop Cerro Noroeste, Campo Alto Campground defies the expectations of crowded, noisy camping with its serene atmosphere, panoramic mountain views, and end-of-the-road privacy. With towering Jeffrey pines and unobstructed vistas of the Carrizo Plain, Cuyama Valley, and more, this tranquil retreat is a haven for those seeking solitude and natural beauty.
Campo Alto offers 17 individual campsites and 2 group sites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, accommodating tents, small RVs, and trailers up to 30 feet. Vault toilets are available, but potable water is not, necessitating self-sufficiency. The campground connects directly to the Tumamait Trailhead, providing access to the Chumash Wilderness for hiking enthusiasts, while the high elevation and minimal light pollution make it an exceptional stargazing locale. Wildlife sightings—from woodpeckers to butterflies—are common, adding to the rustic charm.
Located just 10 miles from Pine Mountain Club and 25 miles from Frazier Park, visitors have access to groceries, restaurants, gas, and basic supplies within a 30-minute drive. Open seasonally from May to November, Campo Alto is ideal for weekend escapes, quiet vacations, or day trips focused on nature immersion and disconnection from modern distractions.
