About Coal Mine Campground
Perched at an elevation of 7,400 feet amid the gently sloping terrain of the Cibola National Forest, Coal Mine Campground offers a tranquil reprieve surrounded by a forest of towering piñon pines, junipers, and gambel oaks. This scenic destination combines rustic charm with natural beauty, creating an ideal setting for quiet retreats, whether you're traveling through or seeking a weekend escape.
The campground features over a dozen spacious sites accommodating tents and smaller RVs (less than 22 feet), with essentials such as picnic tables, fire rings with grills, and clean vault toilets. From its historic Job Corps-built bridge leading to a nature trail, to the nearby views of Mount Taylor, this campground offers an authentic outdoors experience steeped in the region's rugged beauty.
