About Elkhorn Campground
What sets Elkhorn Campground apart is its tranquil simplicity combined with exceptional access to Glendo Reservoir's northernmost waterways. With just nine campsites and one day-use site, this location offers a serene escape surrounded by native grasses and cottonwood trees, ideal for those seeking solitude and a natural setting. Its seasonal boat ramp and proximity to the river inlet make it a popular spot for boaters and anglers during peak water levels in spring and early summer.
Located on the western shore of Glendo State Park, the campground is about a 10-minute drive from the town of Glendo. The area is renowned for its outdoor recreation opportunities, including 45 miles of hiking and biking trails within the park, excellent walleye fishing, and birdwatching. Elkhorn itself features basic amenities, including a vault toilet and an ADA-accessible camping pad, providing essential comforts while maintaining a rustic camping experience.
This small campground works best for springtime enthusiasts, day-trippers, and short visits focused on water-based activities. Its secluded charm and strategic location near the river canyon make it a hidden gem within the broader Glendo State Park area.
