Campground Overview
About Emerald Lake State Park
Is it possible to find a campground that balances tranquility, accessibility, and an array of activities? Emerald Lake State Park in East Dorset, Vermont, offers just that—a serene woodland retreat set on a ridge above a glistening emerald-green lake, with opportunities for swimming, paddling, hiking, and fishing.
This 430-acre park features 66 shaded campsites and 37 lean-tos, well-suited for both tents and small RVs, though no hookups are available. The sites, nestled amidst towering hemlocks and hardwoods, provide privacy and a peaceful ambiance that is unexpectedly close to Route 7. Bathhouses with flush toilets, token-operated showers, and a dump station are conveniently located. Trails lead directly from the campground to the scenic 20-acre lake, where non-motorized boating, lakeside picnicking, and swimming are popular. The lakeshore also includes a sandy beach with a snack bar and rentals for canoes and paddleboards.
Positioned between Manchester and Rutland, the park is less than a 30-minute drive from the hiking trails of the Long Trail and Appalachian Trail, as well as Dorset Mountain. Visitors are also close to the charming shops and restaurants of nearby towns. Whether you’re planning a weekend escape or an extended camping trip, Emerald Lake State Park combines the best of Vermont’s natural beauty and outdoor recreation.
