Campground Overview
About Friend Park Campground
Set against the dramatic backdrop of Laramie Peak, the tallest point in the North Laramie Range, Friend Park Campground offers a tranquil and picturesque retreat for nature enthusiasts. With convenient access to both the Laramie Peak and Friend Park Trails, this campground is a gateway to exceptional hiking experiences. Its serene environment, framed by mountain views, dense forest, and a nearby creek, makes it an ideal choice for those seeking a mix of relaxation and adventure.
Situated at 7,400 feet elevation and featuring 11 campsites, including three walk-in-only tent sites, the campground caters to both RV and tent campers. Essential amenities include potable water, picnic tables, and two vault toilets, but note that there are no electric or sewage hookups. A highlight for many is fishing in Friend Creek and the surrounding beaver ponds, adding to the area’s charm for anglers. The campground also features a trailhead just 0.25 miles away for motorized recreation.
Located approximately 45 miles from Wheatland, Wyoming, and within Medicine Bow National Forest, Friend Park Campground provides access to a remote landscape steeped in history, as this area once served as a waypoint for Oregon Trail settlers. The natural beauty of the surrounding wilderness, coupled with its relatively light to moderate usage, ensures visitors a sense of both solitude and connection to the outdoors.
