Campground Overview
About Grayling Campground
What sets Grayling Campground apart is its serene seclusion, located at a cool 9,000-foot elevation amidst a lush mixed forest of ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, spruce, and aspen trees. Tucked along the shoreline of Big Lake, it promises tranquil views and rich outdoor experiences for campers seeking a peaceful retreat alongside one of Arizona's best trout fishing locales.
This cozy campground provides 23 campsites designed for tents, trailers, and RVs, with amenities including picnic tables, fire rings, drinking water, and flush toilets. Though no sites are directly waterfront, several offer glimpses of Big Lake’s sparkling expanse. Additional conveniences such as showers, a marina, and a store offering gas, groceries, and boat rentals are found about a mile away. Visitors can fish for rainbow, cutthroat, brook, and Apache trout, or explore miles of trails perfect for hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing.
Situated in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, Grayling Campground is a 30-minute drive from Springerville, Arizona, and provides access to both the Big Lake Recreation Area and the surrounding wilderness. The area’s mild summer weather and star-filled night skies make it an ideal destination for weekend getaways or extended vacations, while its proximity to educational programs at the visitor center enriches outdoor exploration.
