Campground Overview
About Rainbow Campground
Rainbow Campground, perched at 9,000 feet in Arizona's picturesque White Mountains, offers a cool, forested retreat adjacent to the sparkling 450-acre Big Lake. This expansive campground boasts abundant shade from towering pines and aspens, and combines serene natural beauty with convenient access to diverse outdoor recreation opportunities.
With 165 campsites spread across six loops, Rainbow Campground accommodates both tent campers and RVs, including large groups. Amenities include potable water, flush toilets, hot showers, fire rings, and picnic tables. A nearby store provides essentials such as food, gas, firewood, and boat rentals. The absence of electrical hookups and limited cell service enhances the peaceful, off-grid experience, yet a dump station is available for RV users.
Located within the Big Lake Recreation Area, the campground is a prime destination for trout fishing, including Apache and rainbow trout, as well as hiking, mountain biking, and birdwatching. Trails such as the Indian Springs Trail connect campers to expansive meadows and scenic vistas. Springerville, approximately 30 miles away, offers the nearest town conveniences and services. Rainbow Campground provides an ideal base for weekend getaways or extended vacations, perfectly balancing comfort and immersion in Arizona’s high-altitude wilderness.
