About Green River Lake Campground
What if camping brought you face-to-face with a scene so pristine it felt untouched by time? Green River Lakes Campground, located at 8,000 feet near the shores of Lower Green River Lake in Wyoming, offers exactly that, with sweeping views of the iconic Square Top Mountain and its rugged Wind River Range surroundings. Known for its remote setting, breathtaking natural beauty, and direct access to some of the area’s best trails, this campground is a serene escape for those seeking true wilderness immersion.
The campground features 36 first-come, first-serve campsites, each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings, as well as three large group sites accommodating up to 35 or 50 people. Vault toilets and seasonal drinking water (July 1st to September 15th) contribute to the rustic yet functional setup. Lodgepole pines dot the area, offering limited shade amidst a backdrop of abundant wildlife and colorful summer wildflowers. The adjacent Lower Green River Lake is perfect for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing, while those eager to explore more can hike into the Bridger Wilderness on trails like the Continental Divide Trail, Highline Trail, or Lakeside Trail. Amenities such as a trailhead parking area, horse corral, and water trough further enhance the site's appeal to adventurers.
Located 50 miles from the nearest town of Pinedale, the journey to the campground involves traveling 18 miles on an unpaved road—a fact that ensures seclusion and amplifies the sense of adventure. The area’s remoteness, combined with stunning vistas of the lake and Square Top Mountain, makes Green River Lakes Campground a prime destination for hiking, backpacking, fishing, or simply connecting with nature away from the modern world.
