Campground Overview
About Haypress Campground
Haypress Campground offers a rare blend of wilderness seclusion and urban proximity, tucked away in the coastal scrub of Tennessee Valley yet just a stone's throw from San Francisco's bustling metropolis.
This primitive hike-in campground provides an authentic backcountry experience without venturing far from civilization. Five individual sites and one group site are scattered across a grassy expanse lined with towering eucalyptus, each equipped with a tent pad and food locker. The campground's rustic charm is enhanced by its lack of running water and electricity, encouraging campers to embrace a simpler outdoor lifestyle.
Located in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area's Marin Headlands, Haypress serves as an ideal basecamp for exploring the area's extensive trail network. The campground sits just a short 0.7-mile hike from the Tennessee Valley trailhead, making it accessible for novice backpackers while still offering the tranquility seasoned outdoor enthusiasts crave. Hikers can easily reach Tennessee Beach, where dramatic coastal geology and colorful sands await, or venture further to Muir Beach or Rodeo Beach for varied coastal experiences.
