Campground Overview
About Hopper Creek Group Campground
A picturesque stream flowing into Hopper Creek defines the serene atmosphere of Hopper Creek Group Campground, a secluded retreat within the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. Designed exclusively for group tent camping, this rustic site stands out for its natural beauty, thoughtfully maintained facilities, and proximity to nearby attractions like Natural Bridge State Park and the Appalachian Trail.
Hopper Creek Group Campground is tailored for groups of up to 50 people, with designated tent pads, 12 picnic tables, a double pedestal grill, a large campfire circle, and a vault toilet. While drinking water is not available on-site, nearby Cave Mountain Lake Recreation Area offers showers and a sandy swimming beach for added convenience. A grassy, open area within the campground provides ample space for games and group activities, and hiking trails in the surrounding forest cater to various skill levels. Wildlife, including bears, frequents the area, adding to the immersive forest experience, although food storage must adhere to strict precautions.
Located three miles from Cave Mountain Lake and eight miles from Natural Bridge State Park, this campground offers easy access to an array of outdoor activities. Visitors can explore hiking and backpacking trails, paddle or fish in the James River, and marvel at the stunning Natural Bridge and the 30-foot cascades of Lace Falls. The campground's proximity to the James River Face Wilderness and Thunder Ridge Wilderness makes it an ideal base for extended adventures in the Blue Ridge Mountains, while its rustic simplicity ensures a back-to-nature camping experience.
