Campground Overview
About Jackson F. Kimball State Recreation Site
A sanctuary of serenity and simplicity, Jackson F. Kimball State Recreation Site offers primitive camping at the headwaters of the crystal-clear Wood River, surrounded by a forest canopy of towering ponderosa and lodgepole pines. This secluded campground defies the expectations of heavily developed sites, providing just ten first-come, first-served campsites and two equestrian sites, all without potable water or electricity, but with an abundance of natural beauty and tranquility.
Situated three miles north of Fort Klamath and 20 miles southeast of Crater Lake National Park, the campground serves as a peaceful base for outdoor enthusiasts. Activities include kayaking or canoeing in the spring-fed lagoon, casting a line for brook, brown, or rainbow trout, and taking a short walking trail to the river’s bubbling source. Vault toilets are available, and the setting creates a quiet, nature-immersive escape ideal for a weekend getaway or stopover for those exploring nearby attractions like Crater Lake or Collier Memorial State Park.
