About Koomer Ridge Campground
Can a campground be both a peaceful retreat and a gateway to adventure? At Koomer Ridge Campground, set amidst the rugged beauty of the Daniel Boone National Forest, campers find the perfect blend of tranquility and exploration. This semi-primitive campground is distinguished by its shaded, wooded campsites, direct trail access to Red River Gorge, and the subtle hum of forest life, offering a serene escape while remaining close to incredible outdoor activities.
Koomer Ridge Campground features 54 campsites suitable for tents and 19 that can accommodate trailers, providing options for both traditional and trailer campers. Each site is equipped with a fire ring, picnic table, and lantern post, and the campground includes a central bathhouse with warm showers (available seasonally) along with drinking water and vault toilets that are accessible year-round. Trailheads to key hiking routes such as the Hidden Arch Trail, Koomer Ridge Trail, and Silvermine Arch Trail are located right on-site, making this an ideal base camp for hiking enthusiasts eager to explore the dramatic arches and cliffs of Red River Gorge. While it’s a peaceful spot, the occasional distant traffic sounds from the Bert Combs Mountain Parkway may be noticed.
Located just five miles from the Slade exit of the Mountain Parkway, Koomer Ridge Campground is a well-connected yet secluded haven. Within a short drive, visitors can explore iconic attractions like the Nada Tunnel, Natural Bridge State Resort Park, and Clifty Wilderness. For a touch of local flavor, acclaimed spots like Miguel’s Pizza are just minutes away, making it easy to pair outdoor exploration with a taste of the area's culture. This campground is particularly well-suited for weekend getaways or extended exploration of one of Kentucky’s most scenic and adventure-packed regions.
