About Lake Keomah State Park
What sets Lake Keomah State Park Campground apart is its captivating blend of history, serene woodland landscapes, and recreational diversity. Located just 7 miles east of Oskaloosa, Iowa, this campground offers a tranquil lakeside escape where modern amenities meet natural charm.
The campground is situated within a 366-acre park featuring an 84-acre man-made lake. With 65 campsites, including 41 with electrical hookups, it accommodates both tent and RV campers. Amenities include modern restrooms, showers, a dump station, and winterized facilities during colder months. The campground also offers group camping areas with dining and restroom facilities available by reservation. Quiet hours (10:30 PM–6:00 AM) ensure a restful environment.
Visitors can enjoy a multi-use, 3-mile trail looping around the lake, perfect for hiking, wildlife observation, and, in winter, snowmobiling or cross-country skiing. The lake itself serves as a hub for fishing, with species like bluegill, crappie, bass, and catfish, while two boat ramps and a fishing pier add to the appeal. A swimming beach and opportunities for kayaking and canoeing enhance the aquatic experience. History enthusiasts will appreciate the park's Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) roots, evident in its historic structures, while birdwatchers can marvel at herons, waterfowl, and other wildlife that thrive in the park's marshy and wooded habitats.
Just a short drive from the charming community of Oskaloosa, this campground is ideal for weekend getaways or longer stays to immerse yourself in nature and local culture. Whether you’re seeking outdoor adventure or a peaceful retreat surrounded by vibrant fall foliage or winter serenity, Lake Keomah State Park Campground has something for every season.
