Campground Overview
About Las Petacas Campground
Shaded by the forested slopes of Casias Canyon, Las Petacas Campground offers the soothing melody of Rio Fernando de Taos creek and a sense of rustic simplicity. Just four miles from Taos, this nine-site campground combines proximity to rich cultural landmarks, like the historic Taos Pueblo, with the quiet charms of nature along a mountain creek.
Each site comes equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill, though campers should note the lack of potable water and the presence of just one vault toilet. The sites are best for tents and small trailers (up to 12 feet) but require a short walk from the parking area for access. Despite its serene surroundings, the campground's location near Highway 64 may bring some traffic noise. Popular activities include trout fishing in the creek, hiking, and wildlife observation, making it ideal for intimate weekend getaways or stopovers.
Located in Carson National Forest at 7,400 feet, Las Petacas is a gateway to both wilderness and the vibrant culture of Taos, where you can explore iconic adobe architecture, art galleries, and nearby natural wonders like the Rio Grande Gorge—all within a 30-minute drive.
