About Leasburg Dam State Park
Leasburg Dam State Park campground offers a serene desert oasis along the Rio Grande, blending natural beauty with historic intrigue just 25 minutes from Las Cruces. This compact yet diverse park features 23 well-maintained sites, including electric and water hookups, set against a backdrop of rugged mountains and lush riverside vegetation.
The campground's layout provides a mix of privacy and community, with three loops offering different experiences. Greasewood Loop sits closest to the river, while Cactus Patch and Cholla loops provide elevated views of the surrounding landscape. Campers can explore 2.25 miles of hiking trails, wander through a native cactus garden, or enjoy bird watching along the river's edge.
Located in Radium Springs, the park serves as a gateway to both natural and cultural attractions. The nearby Fort Selden State Monument offers a glimpse into 19th-century frontier life, while the park's observatory hosts popular monthly stargazing events, taking advantage of the area's dark skies. For water enthusiasts, the park provides access to the Rio Grande for fishing, canoeing, and kayaking from mid-March to mid-October, making it an ideal basecamp for exploring the region's diverse outdoor opportunities.
