About Los Alamos Campground
How does a quick escape into the beauty of Southern California’s wilderness sound? Just 90 minutes north of Los Angeles, the Los Alamos Campground near Pyramid Lake defies the stereotype of urban proximity, offering a tranquil and rugged camping experience amid the foothills of the Sierra Pelona Mountains. With stunning views, easy access to Pyramid Lake, and various recreational activities, this campground is a versatile option for both quick getaways and weekend adventures.
The campground features 93 sites suited for tents, trailers, and RVs, with three group sites that can accommodate larger gatherings. Each site is equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and grills, and while the campsites are generally exposed with limited shade, some trees provide partial relief. Flush toilets, drinking water, and a dump station are available, though there are no hookups for RVs. The campground’s sandy-gravel parking aprons and clean facilities add to its rustic charm. Visitors can enjoy on-site features such as volleyball courts and a general store, while Pyramid Lake, located just a few miles away, offers diverse water activities including boating, jet skiing, kayaking, and fishing.
Situated in the Angeles National Forest near the Santa Clarita Valley, the campground enjoys proximity to notable attractions like the Vista del Lago Visitor Center, offering panoramic views of Pyramid Lake, and the Hungry Valley Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area, both less than 30 minutes away. With its mix of water sports, hiking trails, wildlife viewing, and vibrant wildflower displays in spring, Los Alamos Campground is an ideal base for outdoor enthusiasts seeking an authentic experience without the modern frills.
