About Molas Lake Park & Campground
What sets Molas Lake Park & Campground apart is its pristine alpine setting, offering unparalleled views of the San Juan Mountains, a tranquil 25-acre lake for fishing and non-motorized boating, and direct access to the famed Colorado Trail. Located just 10 minutes south of Silverton along the iconic Million Dollar Highway (US 550), this 137-acre park provides a peaceful yet accessible retreat for outdoor enthusiasts.
The campground features 62 well-maintained sites accommodating everything from walk-in tent setups to spacious RVs. Each site is equipped with picnic tables, fire pits, and flat tent pads or RV parking areas. While there are no water or electricity hookups, campers have access to potable water, clean vault toilets, and $5 hot showers. The lake, stocked with rainbow trout, is perfect for free fishing with a valid Colorado license, and the surrounding trails offer hiking and biking opportunities that lead into the Weminuche Wilderness and San Juan National Forest.
Positioned at an altitude of 10,500 feet, Molas Lake provides breathtaking starry skies free from light pollution. Nearby, the charming mining town of Silverton offers dining, local shops, and historical attractions, making it ideal for day trips. Whether for a weekend escape or a summer getaway, Molas Lake Campground delivers a quintessential Colorado wilderness experience.
