Campground Overview

About Mono Hot Springs Campground

What defines Mono Hot Springs Campground is its blend of geothermal tranquility, rugged alpine scenery, and rustic charm, making it an unparalleled destination for campers seeking both adventure and relaxation. Perched at an elevation of 6,700 feet in California's Sierra National Forest, this campground sits amidst the breathtaking High Sierra landscape along the South Fork of the San Joaquin River and is renowned for its natural mineral hot springs, picturesque hiking trails, and proximity to pristine wilderness areas.

Divided into two sections that frame the historic Mono Hot Springs Resort, the campground offers sites equipped with fire pits, bear-proof lockers, and picnic tables. While shade is limited, some sites are nestled under aspen and lodgepole pines, adding to the rustic ambiance. Vault toilets are available, but you’ll need to acquire drinking water from the resort's general store. The remote location necessitates navigating a narrow, winding Kaiser Pass Road, which is not suitable for large RVs, but rewards visitors with serene surroundings perfect for disconnecting.

Nearby activities include soaking in the diverse natural hot spring pools, fishing or swimming in the San Joaquin River, and hiking to destinations like Doris Lake (2 miles) or Edison Lake (within 30 minutes), where boating and horseback riding are also possible. The campground offers a tranquil escape during its operational season from late spring to early fall, making it ideal for weekend getaways or extended nature retreats.
