About Occoneechee State Park
Perched along the shores of Virginia's largest lake, Buggs Island Lake, Occoneechee State Park Campground offers an idyllic setting for outdoor enthusiasts seeking stunning waterfront views, rich history, and diverse recreational activities. This well-maintained campground blends natural beauty with top-tier amenities, making it a standout destination for camping trips ranging from weekend getaways to extended vacations.
The campground boasts 48 campsites, including some prime waterfront options that cater to tents, trailers, and RVs (up to 35 feet), alongside 11 equestrian sites and unique lodging options like cabins, lodges, and yurts. Campers enjoy access to water and electric hookups in select sites, hot showers, convenient restrooms, picnic tables, fire pits, and a dump station. For added family fun, the splash park and 20 miles of trails offer ample opportunities to cool off, hike, bike, or learn about the area’s indigenous Occoneechee history through interpretive trails and a visitor center museum. The lake serves as a hub for boating, fishing, and kayaking, with three boat ramps and marina rentals available.
Located minutes from Clarksville, Virginia, the only lakeside town in the state, the campground captures the essence of this serene region. Visitors can venture into town for rentals or local shops, or stay within the park to enjoy archery, horseback riding, and ranger-led programs. Whether you're seeking tranquility by the water’s edge, an adventure on the trails, or a deeper connection to the local heritage, Occoneechee State Park Campground delivers a truly memorable outdoor experience.
