Basking under South Dakota’s bright, open sky, Okobojo Point Recreation Area offers a peaceful retreat marked by its secluded campsites, breathtaking views of Lake Oahe, and miles of sandy shores that invite campers to relax, fish, and explore. Its direct access to Lake Oahe ensures a haven for water enthusiasts, with abundant opportunities for fishing, boating, kayaking, and swimming.
Located just 17 miles northwest of Pierre, this compact campground features 18 non-electric sites, many situated directly by the water for scenic lakefront camping. With clean facilities including vault toilets, drinking water, and picnic areas, visitors can enjoy essential comforts while immersing themselves in nature. The park also includes a boat ramp for easy lake access and a volleyball court for onshore recreation. Notably, Okobojo Point forms part of South Dakota’s Great Lakes Birding Trail, making it a prime spot for birdwatching and wildlife enthusiasts.
Within a short 30-minute drive, Pierre and Fort Pierre provide access to local culture, historical attractions like the Verendrye Monument, and additional outdoor activities.
