About Pettit Campground
Tucked away at the base of the Sawtooth Mountains, Pettit Lake Campground offers a blend of rugged wilderness and serene lakeside beauty, making it a prime destination for outdoor enthusiasts seeking both tranquility and adventure. With its close proximity to the crystal-clear Pettit Lake and the renowned Tin Cup Trailhead, it serves as a gateway to the heart of Idaho's Sawtooth Wilderness.
The campground features 12 first-come, first-serve sites—nine single and three double—designed for tents and smaller RVs. Each site includes picnic tables, fire rings, and access to vault toilets and potable water, ensuring basic comforts in a remote setting. The adjacent Pettit Lake is ideal for non-motorized boating, swimming, and trout fishing, while numerous hiking trails lead to alpine lakes and breathtaking mountain vistas. The area’s secluded location and absence of motorboats preserve a peaceful atmosphere. However, campers should prepare for limited amenities, as no electricity or hookups are available.
Situated just 21 miles south of Stanley and 2 miles off Idaho State Highway 75, Pettit Lake Campground is both accessible and remote enough to feel like an escape. Visitors can explore nearby destinations like the Tin Cup Trail, a popular route into the Sawtooth Wilderness, or relax by the lake’s pristine shoreline. Whether for a weekend getaway or a stop on a longer adventure, Pettit Lake Campground offers an immersive nature experience in one of Idaho's most striking landscapes.
