About Ponderosa Group Campground

How does a campground redefine group camping? Ponderosa Group Campground within Bandelier National Monument delivers an irresistible blend of elevated seclusion, breathtaking terrain, and direct trail access. Perfect for groups of 10 to 50, this year-round, tent-only campground sits in a serene ponderosa pine forest at approximately 7,600 feet, offering access to over 70 miles of trails, including the adjacent Ponderosa Trailhead.

Located just six miles from the park entrance along NM Hwy 4, this campsite is a gateway to nearby attractions such as Los Alamos, Valles Caldera National Preserve, and Santa Fe National Forest. The site features picnic shelters, fire rings, vault toilets, and seasonal potable water (available mid-May to mid-October). For group adventurers, the Frijoles Canyon Shuttle (mid-May to mid-October) provides seamless access to additional park highlights, including the Bandelier Visitor Center.

Ponderosa Group Campground is a prime destination for large gatherings, combining natural beauty, forested tranquility, and proximity to cultural and outdoor landmarks—all within 30 minutes of the vibrant town of Los Alamos.
