About Ramshorn Campground

Shaded by towering cedar, fir, and oak trees, Ramshorn Campground offers a tranquil retreat on the rugged slopes of the North Yuba River valley, just off Highway 49. This small, rustic campground features 16 campsites, ideal for tent camping as well as smaller trailers and RVs up to 20 feet, delivering a secluded experience with basic facilities like picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets. The campground is a perfect launch point for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hiking, fishing, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing in the stunning Tahoe National Forest.

Located about five miles from Downieville, Ramshorn sits amidst a region rich in natural beauty and history. The North Yuba River provides opportunities for swimming, fishing for rainbow trout, and even seasonal rafting. Nearby, the Yuba River Trail and the multi-use Halls Ranch Trail offer miles of scenic exploration for hikers and bikers. History buffs will appreciate the proximity to gold rush-era towns like Goodyears Bar and Downieville, accessible along the Yuba-Donner Scenic Byway.

While its rustic charm appeals to those seeking a quiet camping escape, it’s important to note that the campground does not offer potable water or utility hookups, so campers should come well-prepared. Fire restrictions may also apply seasonally due to dry weather, ensuring safety in this forested environment.
