About Rock Canyon Campground
Hovering at nearly 7,000 feet along the scenic Squaw Peak Road in Utah’s Wasatch Mountain Range, Rock Canyon Campground combines rugged natural beauty with premier outdoor recreation opportunities. Shaded by dense stands of maple, scrub oak, and fir trees, this secluded site offers breathtaking views of Rock Canyon and a slice of Utah Valley while immersing visitors in a pristine alpine environment.
This primitive campground features four group sites equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings, although it lacks water and restroom facilities. The area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, with immediate access to hiking and mountain biking trails, including the Rock Canyon Trail and nearby Squaw Peak Trail. Rock climbing is a major draw here, with the canyon’s dramatic quartzite and limestone walls attracting climbers of all skill levels. Wildlife sightings and spring wildflowers enhance the appeal of this wilderness escape.
Located just 20 minutes from Provo, the campground is perfectly positioned for exploring nearby attractions like the Mount Timpanogos Wilderness. Highlights within a short drive include alpine meadows, waterfalls, and trails leading to the summit of Mount Timpanogos, where Rocky Mountain goats and breathtaking vistas await.
