Tucked alongside the picturesque Clark Fork of the Stanislaus River, Sand Flat Campground in the Stanislaus National Forest offers a tranquil escape characterized by its serene riverside ambiance, cool forested setting, and proximity to outdoor adventure. This campground breaks from expectations with its blend of shaded and open campsites, providing varied environments for campers seeking both seclusion and riverfront access, all enveloped by the forest's natural charm.
The campground features 68 campsites, including 15 walk-in tent sites and drive-in sites accommodating tents, trailers, and RVs. All sites come equipped with picnic tables and fire rings, with drinking water accessible through hand pumps and vault toilets available on-site. The peaceful setting and direct proximity to the river make fishing, hiking, and wildlife observation favorite activities, while the nearby Carson-Iceberg Wilderness offers extensive opportunities for exploration. For extended stays, the nearby Clark Fork Road also provides an RV dump station.
Located just six miles from the junction of Clark Fork Road and Highway 108, Sand Flat Campground is roughly 25 miles east of the Summit Ranger Station and a short drive from Arnold. With easy access to the scenic Sonora Pass and Emigrant Wilderness, this location is perfect for both weekend getaways and extended vacations for campers looking to experience Northern California’s rich natural beauty and outdoor recreation.
